This practice is appropriate for both beginners and more experienced yogis.

The philosophy of Integral Yoga is based on interfaith understanding. Swami Satchidananda, the founder of Integral Yoga, believed that all religions share universal principles. He encouraged Integral Yogis, who were also religious, to recognize and respect their differences. He stressed that Integral Yoga does not refer to itself as a religion. It is a system or series of practices. Integral Yoga does not have a hierarchy. Therefore, practitioners can combine practices to suit their individual needs.

To start, complete about 20-30 minutes of warm-ups before beginning your class. After that, take 5-10 minutes to warm up and do some simple stretches. Work your way into more challenging poses.

After mastering the basics, you can progress to intermediate classes where you will learn more advanced moves. For instance, if you're just beginning yoga, you might start by learning standing poses like the Tree and Mountain (Vrksasana), respectively.

Where can I find a qualified yoga teacher?

It is possible to find yoga teachers in your neighborhood. If you don't live near a yoga studio, try searching for one online. You might also consider signing up for a class that allows you to register online.

Can I do yoga during pregnancy?

You may not be able to perform certain poses safely if you are pregnant. Before you start a new exercise program, consult your doctor.

There are many poses you could still do while pregnant. Here are some tips:

  • Pregnant women shouldn't lift weights above shoulder level. Instead, use lightweight resistance bands or dumbbells.
  • Avoid deep twists as they could place pressure on your belly.
  • Avoid backbends until after you give birth. This can place excessive strain on the lower back.
  • Until you deliver your baby, don't lie on your stomach or sit cross-legged.
  • Make sure you have your doctor cleared you to perform inverted poses (e.g., headstands or handstands).
  • Limit your practice to 30 minutes per day.

Yoga can be continued throughout pregnancy if you are ready. Your doctor will advise you on when you are ready to practice yoga.
